I love to eat out, I don't let Coeliac stop me, in 2025 I ate out at some many places across the north end England and Wales, some were chains others were independents, some new places and some I have visited countless times and still love to visit. Find out every place I ate at in this blog!

Despite being Coeliac, I do love to eat out, I don't let being gluten free stop me that's for sure. After 11 years, I will admit, it has got easier eating out but I will only choose to eat somewhere after asking questions and making sure they can cater properly.
I always ask about preparation, do they share fryers etc, if I get any hint they don't understand about cross contamination then I won't eat there. As long as the place shows understanding then I am happy to try eating gluten free there. There is always a risk eating out, unless it is a 100% gluten free kitchen, but is the risk more than in your own home if you have a family member who eats gluten? I don't think so, we take precautions at home, the same as many eateries do.
In 2025 I ate out so much, it is very heavily focussed across the North West and East of England with a scattering of West Midlands and a touch of Wales - it really is dependent on where I have visited and in 2025 I didn't go down South at all. I am Cheshire based so you can always guarantee in and around Cheshire will play a huge part, in 2025 we holidayed over in Skegness/Mablethorpe, so Lincolnshire is very popular too.
I can't say I have had an issue anywhere this year which is always good, I am not a silent Coeliac so always know if I have had gluten.
In the last year I have stayed at Premier Inn 9 times in 5 different branches with a gluten free breakfast at all of them and at each they have taken my order and got fresh from the kitchen and fruit and yogurt have been available too, usually also Schar muesli available but find that hit and miss. I did have a slight issue at one of the Premier Inn's I stayed at (one I'd stayed in 3 times before over the year) where the guy who came to take my order to be prepped separately in the kitchen seemed to be confused with dairy, I was reluctant to eat the bread he brought out as it looked different to previous I'd had there so I left it. Other than that though, no issues to report!
Let's take a look at all the places I have eaten out at this year!
Swan Lake Chinese, Winterley nr Crewe
Fantastic gluten free choices, been getting take away from this Chinese for many years as it's close to home and they never fail. Love their gluten free sweet and sour and they have recently added a few more gluten free sauces to the menu too. This year I have had sweet and sour, foo yung, fried rice, beef with ginger and their English omelettes (ordered for the toddler but I usually end up finishing them)
Nandos, Crewe
Walking distance from home so always a good one for me to visit. Love Nandos for gluten free, no we can't have burgers or wraps but any of the regular chicken and a good majority of the sides are all gluten free. Never had an issue with Nandos, my usual go to is a quarter chicken lemon and herb with chips and coleslaw or corn and spicy rice.
Hickorys Smokehouse, Crewe
One of our local go to's as they have a fabulous gluten free menu and Coeliac staff too. Always very understanding and great gluten free onion rings (which I believe have currently been taken off). If you love American Smokehouse then this is definitely a must try. On this visit I had their pulled pork which is one of my favourites.
Old Hall, Sandbach
Part of the Brunning and Price chain, which is amazing for gluten free. Old Hall is our go to for a meal that's a bit more special. Super understanding and great food like at all the Brunning and Price pubs, they even do pie! I must say the pie is usually a go to here (and the one in the picture) but their steaks are also fantastic and usually some great desserts too.
Dysart Arms, Bunbury
Another of the Brunning and Price branches I visited when friends were down. A lovely little pub and again, like Old Hall, they are amazing for gluten free. Menus change all the time, I had fish pie when I went and it was one of the best fish pies I have had.
Ice Cream Farm, Tattenhall
We love a trip the Ice Cream Farm. They have gluten free cones in the parlour and are fabulous at changing their gloves and opening fresh tubs. When we went in February, the Sticky Paws restaurant also had gluten free options, they were great going through everything. We had chicken goujons and chips. I have heard reports that things did change but I don't know if that is still the case.
Marmalade, Chester
My go to when I visit Chester. All the menu can be gluten free, EVERY cake is gluten free except scones and their sandwiches are amazing. They are always so lovely here and while maybe slightly more expensive for a café the meals are always decent sizes and it's always a slab of cake, not a slice. My go to sandwich is the coronation chicken but their Christmas range was just amazing too.
Bella Italia, Chester
Bella Italia are great for gluten free pizza and pasta, they also have desserts but not the best choices. I have had both pizza and pasta from here, pictured is my friend Sophies pizza when we both visited this branch earlier in the year which has spicy sausage and chicken on. I have my favourite Marco Polo pasta which is duck and plum sauce.
(not listed as individual branches in my where to eat guide as I can only list them if the company helps me out by providing the data for me to add them all)
Orso Lounge, Congleton
Lounges are one of the best chains when it comes to gluten free with a huge gluten free menu from burgers to sandwiches. Their breakfasts are fabulous too and have a gluten free sausage on them.
Navio Lounge, Nantwich
Same as with Orso above, Navio is super when it comes to gluten free. Navio is my closest Lounges so been a few times this year! At this branch I have had the gluten free breakfasts a fair few times, they are always delicious, the burgers are also very good across the branches.
Snugburys, Nantwich
I love a trip to Snugburys, they have some gorgeous flavours of ice cream and they have gluten free cones. Staff are great too and prepare allergen orders separately in the back. I've had many different flavours when visiting, so hard to choose a favourite one!
Pho, Liverpool
99% gluten free Vietnamese chain, I do love going here! So many delicious options to choose from, just spring rolls not gluten free! My favourite is the curry, it is super creamy. Mum loves the beef pho.
Fylde Fish Bar, Southport
Eaten here a couple times and it has always been lovely, separate fryers for gluten free and a good choice of dishes, always great with my toddler too. The battered prawns are a definite must but I have also had sausage and chips and fish and chips from here, can't fault them.
Miller and Carter, Liverpool
Coeliac UK accredited steak house, Miller and Carter are great for a special treat, huge array of dishes available gluten free. Still not sure what the point of the lettuce is though! This is a place we don't visit often but it was perfect for when we visited the Albert Dock before a show at the arena. I chose the sirloin steak with beef dripping sauce and it was perfection!
(not listed as individual branches in my where to eat guide as I can only list them if the company helps me out by providing the data for me to add them all)
Café 25, Blackpool
Got to be the best place in Blackpool for gluten free. Aaron is just the loveliest person and he has a huge amount of gluten free from sandwiches to fish and chips and pies, whatever you could want really. And not forgetting the vast choice of cakes and proper doughnuts he's started doing! Eaten here to many times this year, it's just so good! I could have taken up a whole page with images from here but I haven't, above you can see scampi and a cake selection he made for me when I asked for a takeout of sandwiches and cakes to go the zoo with. I have also had burgers, sandwiches, sausage rolls and other cakes through the year too, always been lovely!
Bella Italia, Blackpool
Like in Chester, Bella Italia chain offer pizza and pasta for an evening meal Bella is a go to for us. Again I have ad Marco Polo pizza pictured is half pepperoni pizza and salad, one of their "healthier choices". I also had the brownie on a couple of trips and it is nice as far as brownie goes, but the salted caramel sauce is a little over salty!
(not listed as individual branches in my where to eat guide as I can only list them if the company helps me out by providing the data for me to add them all)
Vintro Lounge, Blackpool
Like all Lounges the one in Blackpool has a great gluten free menu with loads of options to choose from. At this branch in particular I had Louisana chicken, which is fabulous gluten free fried chicken with a dip, and also the breakfasts.
Bentleys Chip Shop, Blackpool
Bentleys used to be the only chip shop offering gluten free but now there are a few more. They only do gluten free fish and chips but least it's an option and great for if you are going the Pleasure Beach as it is close by.
Navarro Lounge, Manchester
This Lounges branch is on Oxford Road, great location is you are visiting the hospital or theatres as it is a short walk from both. Like all the other Lounges they are great for gluten free
Sweet Mandarin, Manchester
One of the best places in Manchester for gluten free, Sweet Mandarin in always a must for us, especially when a good gluten free Chinese isn't always easy to find. Lisa and Helen are so lovely and they have an amazing gluten free menu, in the past we have done their banquet which has crispy beef, sweet and sour, salt and pepper chips, chicken wings, and rice. This time I had a lighter option and went from their gluten free chicken fried rice.
Hard Rock Café, Manchester
Hard Rock has a dedicated gluten free menu and are also Coeliac UK accredited, we found them very attentive running us through all the procedures before I even asked anything. Excellent food too! On a previous visit I had a burger and it was really good this time I had the chicken and ribs combo which was lovely and we had the brownie sharer for dessert, this is the only gluten free dessert option which is a shame and we don't always want the same dessert.
Vetro Lounge, Rotherham
Yet another Lounges, not sure what else I can say! Same as all the other branches with their separate gluten free menu. At this branch I had their buttermilk chicken and bacon burger.
Dunelm Mill, Rotherham
Any Dunelm Mill that has a Pausa café offer gluten free. They have a gluten free toastie and a couple of wrapped cakes plus jacket potatoes. The toastie was ok but it was the usual mozzarella, pesto and tomato everywhere seems to have.
(not linked to an individual branch as branches for chains are only listed on the where to eat guide where the company has helped me out by providing the data for me to add them all)
Hong Kong City, Rotherham
Fabulous Chinese in Bramley part of Rotherham, their munch sharer box is so good, we were eating at the mother in laws so she shared with me and there was enough for 4 portions. The battered chicken is really good and love they do prawn toast as well so had to get some of that for on the side. Huge range of gluten free dishes all cooked separate, they are cash only though so something to bear in mind.
Bella Italia, Sheffield
Another Bella Italia, again do gluten free pizza and pasta all labelled on the menu.
(not linked to an individual branch as branches for chains are only listed on the where to eat guide where the company has helped me out by providing the data for me to add them all)
Nandos, Doncaster
Like the one in Crewe, and every other branch, all their normal chicken and most of the sides are gluten free. On this occasion I chose quarter chicken with lemon and herb, chips and coleslaw as the sides.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster
I went in blind at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, hoping they had something I could have as I had nowhere to prep food to take the day before. They had prepacked gluten free sandwiches and cakes which was luckily, only option was cheese and onion which is usually the last choice I would make but it was ok in a pinch.
Oxford Place, Leeds
I have been this 100% gluten free restaurant a few times over the years and it is always so nice not to even have to mention the words gluten free or Coeliac. They do so many delicious options, with a menu that changes regularly. From pies and fish and chips to something a bit different, there is something for everyone. Mum had a pot pie and I had one of those very obscure dishes that shouldn't work but did. I can't remember what they called it but it was a Yorkshire pudding loaded with sweet potato fries with lamb steak topped with a plum sauce and fried egg, sat on a bed of pak choi and it was amazing, dessert of Tiramisu was phenomenal too
Hesco Lounge, Roundhay
Yet another Lounges branch, yep, like all the others they have a gluten free menu and excellent coeliac knowledge. It was on the festive menu when I went and I had the gluten free clucker burger which was so good I recreated it and it was just as stunning. Best burger I have had from a Lounges.
Web Adventure Park, York
Not a vast array of choice but I was able to get a jacket potato and a gluten free Aero brownie which was kept separate, so at least an option if visiting with the kids.
Wagamama, Stoke
Wagamama had a lovely gluten free menu and was a favourite go to, however it was earlier this year when I went and the menu has since changed removing a few popular gluten options which left it very restricted. Hopefully this changes again at some point. They still cater but not as well. I had pad thai which is one of the choices I think has currently vanished.
Peaches, Newcastle-under-Lyme
I live local to here but only been twice, this year I went with work for our Christmas meal and they are fantastic. They are buffet style but not self serve, so all you can eat but they get from the kitchen. Super attentive for gluten free they got me all my own plates and gave just to me when everyone else was sharing. Amazing food too. They did a selection of the popular starters for the other 7 and for me made me my own platter which was almost the same but gluten free and had lettuce for the duck pancakes rather than pancakes. For mails I chose sweet and sour prawns and also a crispy beef afterwards along with a fried rice which they gave me my own bowl of while everyone else had a sharer. Also got a dessert of cheesecake, whole table pretty much had the same and they all looked the same, mine had a flag labelling it though, afterwards I learnt the base on mine was made from nairns biscuits and the others were digestives, but they looked no different.
Rabbit Hole, Stoke
Family run tea room in Stoke, Coeliac family member so very understanding of gluten free. I went for a Festive afternoon tea and it was incredible, I had to question if some was gluten free as it was almost identical to the normal, down to having Viennese whirls. They have the most amazing attention to detail with the afternoon teas.
Borough 22, Birmingham
Shoutout to this one as it was a popup in Birmingham Selfridges from November to end December 2025. 100% gluten free doughnuts from this London based company, fantastic doughnuts, they are usually only London based or can order online.
Caffe Nero, Birmingham
Another chain one, somewhere I've not eaten from before and wasn't aware they did gluten free but when wondering New Street Station looking for food I spotted they had a toastie. Not the best gluten free toastie, another mozzarella and pesto one, but it was alright in a pinch, cooked in its own bag.
(not listed as individual branches in my where to eat guide as I can only list them if the company helps me out by providing the data for me to add them all)
Papas, Cleethorpes
Not sure this is one I would return too, the guy I spoke to was reassuring and I was told separate fryers. I didn't have ill affects from the food but some others have said they have (seems to be a minority) however the fish itself wasn't great, it wasn't a proper batter at all and it just wasn't the nicest fish and chips, it was ok but wouldn't rush back.
Seal Sanctuary, Mablethorpe
I only had cake here as it was early, they had a gluten free one covered separate and with it's own cake slice. Wasn't a huge amount on the lunch menu but jacket potatoes were available gluten free.
Busy Bee Café, Mablethorpe
Thanks to the guys on Facebook I found this gem, we needed a café to eat at with the toddler and this one got recommended. The owner was super helpful and knowledgeable, I didn't ask but got a feeling she was coeliac herself. They do all sorts gluten free and even have separate toasters, I had a delicious toastie! I wish I could have visited more than once but we were only there for a weekend.
Ice Cream Company, Mablethorpe
I had heard SO much about here, 3 different flavoured whippy ice creams available all labelled gluten free AND with gluten free ice cream cones available, just had to try! And it lived up to expectations, walking down the sea front with an ice cream in a cone was great!
Skegness Aquarium, Skegness
This one isn't in my where to eat guide as they don't really offer much if anything usually, we were lucky they had a gluten free chocolate and raspberry brownie when we went which was kept separate but from my understanding they don't always have it, not really anything else gluten free there but if you want a sweet treat and you are lucky to spot they have it, then it's an option.
Atlantic Fish Bar, Skegness
Fabulous gluten free menu, huge range all cooked separate, the Fisherman's platter is so good! We went a couple times while on holiday there and it was lovely each time. Second time I had a full English breakfast.
Jolly Fisherman Rock Shop, Skegness
Right behind Atlantic Fish Bar you can't not go and get gluten free doughnuts for desserts. I did go a few times, just can't say no to gluten free doughnuts when they are available! They are fabulous with whippy ice cream!
Pie Palace, Ingoldmells
Extensive gluten free menu and being across from Fantasy Island it is very popular. Lovely chippy food, contrary to the name no gluten free pie available though but do have so many other things like pizza, fish and chips and cooked breakfasts. I chose a sausage and chips with gravy when I visited.
Fishermans Catch, Sunderland
Fabulous 100% gluten free chip shop in Sunderland, used to be in South Shields but recently moved. I visited while in the area seeing a friend and had a sharing platter which was fantastic, it's always amazing when everything is guaranteed to be gluten free and don't have to mention Coeliac at all. The sausages here were probably the best I have had, and the scotch eggs were amazing too.
Catch 22, Valley
Always a go to for us, most of the menu is available gluten free and it often changes too so always something different to have. I always find the staff really helpful, on occasion, slightly OVER helpful but always happy to check anything. The prawn curry I had on this visit which came with an onion bhaji was delicious. Dessert was eton mess, it wasn't the best though unfortunately
Oceans Edge, Trearddur Bay
I've been visiting Trearddur since I was a child but this is the first time I've eaten here despite them doing gluten free for many years, the burger I had was amazing and there was lots of other choice too. For dessert I chose another eton mess and which it looked toxic from the colours it was amazing.
South Stack, Holyhead
The visitor centre at South Stack Lighthouse has some gluten free options including sandwiches and jacket potatoes so if you fancy a light lunch while visiting you can (you can pop in without going to the lighthouse too). I have eaten there a couple of times before, not the best place but it's ok for something light.
Barnacles, Llandudno
Barnacles is always a popular place amongst the Coeliac community, the owners have a Coeliac relative so very understanding and they have a large gluten free menu both for eat in and take out from fish and chips to pie and quiche!
There were loads of other places I wished I could have got to this year but couldn't, and I have plans to eat out at so many other places in 2026, who knows where it will take me but I am sure I can already spot a Lounges visit looming!
