Another day and there is yet another recall for undeclared gluten, but shockingly this recall is on a specifically gluten free product.
The recall applies to ALL batches of Tesco Free From Breadcrumbs, a product specifically made for the gluten and wheat free community, meaning they are often a staple in any Coeliacs cupboard.
The alert first popped up on Allergy UK that Tesco were recalling their Free From Breadcrumbs "due to the presence of undeclared wheat (gluten)". The full recall message was initially issued by one of the leading UK allergy charities can be found here, it was also shared via their Facebook.
The Food Standards agency quickly followed and have also popped it onto their alerts page, full details are in this post.
If you have purchased these breadcrumbs and have them lurking in the cupboard, you can return them to Tesco for a full refund, no receipt required. Please, do not consume them!
This mishap poses a serious risk to Coeliacs. This isn't the first time Tesco have recalled Free From products due to undeclared wheat, in 2023 a selection of free from crisps were recalled for the same reason.
How mistakes like these can happen these days is beyond me, how exactly does wheat get into a specifically gluten free product without notice? If you know any Coeliacs that might have these in the house, please share with them to make sure they don't accidentally consume gluten
