If you love tiramisu but fancy something a little more autumnal than a classic gluten free tiramisu, this gluten free apple and cinnamon tiramisu is the perfect dessert. Think all the creamy, indulgent layers of a classic tiramisu, but with a delicious autumn twist thanks to soft caramelised apples, warming cinnamon and apple soaked gluten free lady fingers.

For the gluten free lady fingers you can make your own, a few other bloggers have recipes, I really need to do one! Or you can buy them. For Christmas 2026, Schar have brought their gluten free lady fingers to the Sainsburys Free From aisle, or you can get Vicenzi Vicenzovo ones from Amazon or TikTok.

The caramelised apple is the real star here. Granny Smith apples are cooked with brown sugar, apple juice and cinnamon until soft and coated in a thick, sweet caramelised syrup, then layered between creamy mascarpone and gluten free lady fingers. A final dusting of cinnamon sugar gives the whole dessert that gorgeous apple-and-cinnamon flavour.

This easy gluten free tiramisu is perfect for autumn dinner parties, Sunday lunches or simply when you fancy a cosy dessert. It is also a great option for anyone following a gluten free diet or living with coeliac disease, as long as you check that all of your ingredients, particularly the lady fingers, are suitable for a gluten free diet.

And yes, it has officially passed the extremely scientific neighbour taste test, she is none coeliac and demanding the recipe!

Here are some tips and FAQs about Gluten Free Apple and Cinnamon Tiramisu

Yes! This apple and cinnamon tiramisu is made with gluten free lady fingers, making it a delicious gluten free dessert suitable for people with coeliac disease when all ingredients are confirmed gluten free and suitable for your dietary requirements.

Traditional tiramisu is not usually gluten free because lady fingers (savoiardi) are generally made with wheat flour. However, tiramisu can easily be made gluten free by using gluten free lady fingers or gluten free savoiardi and checking the remaining ingredients are suitable for a gluten free diet.

Granny Smith apples work particularly well because their slightly tart flavour balances the sweetness of the brown sugar and caramelised syrup. You can use another firm cooking apple if you prefer, but softer apples may break down more quickly during cooking.

Keep the tiramisu covered in the refrigerator and eat within a couple of days. As this recipe contains mascarpone, double cream and egg yolks, it should be kept chilled at all times.

Yes. This apple and cinnamon tiramisu contains no alcohol, making it suitable for anyone looking for an alcohol-free tiramisu. However if you wanted to make it alcoholic you could use cider instead of apple juice.

Method

  1. Peel and dice the apples into small pieces, place in a pan along with brown sugar, apple juice and cinnamon.

  2. Place on a medium heat and stir to coat the apples. The sugar and apple juice will turn into a caramelised syrup and the apple will soften.

  3. Bring to boil and add the cornflour mixed with a drop of cold water, stir through so the caramel thickens.

  4. Once the apples are all soft remove from the heat and allow to cool some before using in your tiramisu.

  5. Separate the eggs, keep your eggs to make something else to save wasting them (something like my lemon meringue cups), put the egg yolks in a large bowl along with brown sugar and whisk with an electric whisk until very thick and creamy (about 3-4 mins of whisking).

  6. In another jug or bowl, whisk the double cream to stiff peaks then pour into the egg yolks along with the mascarpone cheese and pinch of cinnamon. Fold the mixture together until well combined.

  7. Pour 150ml of apple juice into a shallow bowl and dip 3 of your gluten free lady fingers into it. They absorb the juice very quickly, so don't leave them in too long otherwise it'll be like Rich Tea biscuits in a mug of tea!

In my dish, the gluten free Schar lady fingers (or other brand) were way to long to fit so I had to break some off. The broken off bits were enough to create another lady finger so I only needed 5....this is going to vary depending on your bowl dimensions!

  1. Put three soaked gluten free lady fingers in the bottom of your dish then layer half the apple mix on top of the fingers, spread over evenly. On top of this add half of your mascarpone and spread over. Repeat these three again, lady fingers, apple and mascarpone to finish the layers of your tiramisu.

  2. Mix together caster sugar and cinnamon and place in a sugar shaker (or sprinkle very gently with a spoon) and sprinkle over the top of the tiramisu until fully covered but do not overload it, you just want a thin layer but fully covering.

  3. Place in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours but I like to leave mine overnight so it is well chilled, then serve!
