Gluten Free Waffles

Back to all recipes.
Gluten free waffles are so easy to make you can have them for breakfast, lunch or dessert! It is recommended to use a waffle iron to get the best waffles, you can buy them cheap in supermarkets or in the form of a stove top pan. This batter mix is easy to make with ingredients probably already in your fridge and cupboard, it can also be made dairy free by switching the milk to a dairy free alternative.

Gluten Free Waffles

Ingredients

250ml milk
1 large egg
275g gluten free plain flour
1tsp baking powder (not all baking powders are gluten free so make sure to check)
Pinch salt
1tbsp sugar
2tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. Pour the milk into a bowl and crack in the egg, lightly beat in.

  2. Sift in the gluten free plain flour, baking powder and salt and also add in the sugar and vanilla extract.

  3. Use a bell whisk (or a fork works too) to beat the dry ingredients into the milk and egg until the batter mix is nice and smooth.

  4. Allow the mix to sit for at least 15 mins to settle, meanwhile heat up waffle maker until it reaches temperature.

  5. Pour the batter into the hot waffle iron, fill the bottom iron to the top so it covers the raised bits, close the iron and allow to cook until golden brown, for me this took around 8-10 mins but may vary, check after 5 mins and check every minute afterwards until golden. From this mix I managed to make 3 large square waffles, if you have the triangle shape maker you will probably get more.

  6. Gently remove from the iron and top however you want - here are a few ideas -

Ice cream with caramel and chocolate sauce Butter and maple syrup Honey and banana S'mores - Chocolate, crushed gluten free digestives and marshmallows Cooked apple and cinnamon Nutella and whipped cream Eton mess - Mixed berries, cream and crushed meringue

Your Comments

I have been looking for a decent Waffle reciepe for ages as we have a electric waffle maker, so my question is could the waffles be frozen once cooked and cooled?
