Gluten Free Chocolate and Sweets UK

This blog was featured in:

Remember things change, this list was last updated in January 2023, but remember ingredients and factories can change at any time so it is not guaranteed everything will be accurate, always double check the package before you buy!

Did you know there was so many gluten free chocolates and sweets around in the UK? I am a major chocoholic, so I think I may be the queen of knowing what is and isn't gluten free when it comes to the delightful chocolate treats and it is only right I share that info with my fellow Coeliacs.

I hope this blog helps you understand what chocolate is out there and safe but also there's some info on alternatives to products that aren't safe. There will be some that I have missed no doubt but will add them on when I find them!

Sorry....these aren't gluten free

Before I list everything you can have, as there are lots of gluten free chocolatey goodies out there, here's a note about some products that aren't gluten free that I always get asked about. And I mean I get asked A LOT about them, if I think of any others I will also tag them on -

Malteasers nope definitely not gluten free. There are a few alternatives around but none are the same. Schar Delishios are in most supermarkets or Creative Nature Gnawbles which personally I prefer

Cadbury Heroes - ONLY the dinky decker is unsafe. Each are made in separate lines which means they others are safe to eat.
Smarties - Sorry, not safe. But some home brands and also m&m's are fine so there are alternatives.
Ferrero Rocher - Unfortunately not gluten free but take a look below for the bars and Schar do Tempties which are similar.
Kinder Bueno - Oh how I wish these were gluten free, sadly they aren't. Schar Meltos are similar though.
Kit Kat No, normal KitKats are not gluten free. However, the bunnies and santas that come out each year are gluten free, they have wafer bits in made from rice flour. You can get chocolate free from wafers in Tesco down the free from aisle too.

In late 2019/2020 Hotel Chocolat divulged that none of there chocolate was gluten free, everything is a may contain and not safe for Coeliacs.

At the end of 2020 Thorntons also changed their packaging and made virtually every product a may contain gluten, the same as Hotel Chocolat.

What chocolate and sweets are gluten free?

Despite those though, there are still plenty of gluten free chocolate and sweets floating around the UK though and below you can find a list of what is currently gluten free (this means they don't contain gluten ingredients and also carry no may contain warning on the packaging)

*I haven't included Aldi and Lidl as I need to go in store to see what they have, will update with them when I remember*
