A Closer Look...

If you want something a little different this Christmas in place of the normal Christmas Pudding, Tesco have a selection of different options, including this Salted Caramel Pudding.

We found it semi easy to get hold of, only seems to be in the bigger stores, some of the smaller ones are hit and miss, some have it, some don't. This is actually the second year on the run I've tried getting this as it is only in at Christmas, last year it kept selling out much faster than I could get hold of it, this year though stock seems to be holding up much better but the closer to Christmas we get I think the harder it is going to be to get hold of.

Anyway, while I was having a naughty day I decided to give this a try, half a pudding is 400 calories, as far as puds go it isn't too bad, but it would be so easy to eat the whole of this pudding even though it is suppose to serve two.

The pudding is a microwave one, warm it in the microwave for a few minutes for a hot, sponge pudding. After a few minutes it was just warm in our microwave, if you want it really piping hot it would have needed a little longer.

The sponge itself looked lovely, the only criticism against it I have is that the salted caramel isn't really runny, it's more gone into the sponge so there was no real sauce to it, however you could taste the caramel so it was there it had just all gone into the sponge.

The pudding was lovely and light and the caramel definitely had a strong flavour to it despite the lack of sauce, the sponge was delicious and paired with some custard it was a proper traditional tasting winter pud with a twist of caramel, a nice modern take on a syrup pudding. It will be perfect for Christmas if you aren't a traditional Christmas Pudding fan.

Overall it is a recommended pudding and we suggest you run out and find one before they sell out for Christmas, they don't stay long after the festivities so they won't be around much longer.
